Days of the Beer, March 1

The beer for today is Boulder Dam Brewing, Black Canyon Stout.

On March 1, 1936, the Hoover Dam (originally known as the Boulder Dam) was completed. The dam is a concrete arch-gravity dam in the Black canyon of the Colorado River. It is on the border between Arizona and Nevada. It was constructed between 1931 and 1936.

Hoover Dam is located near Boulder City, Nevada, a town that was originally constructed for workers on the construction project. It's about 25 miles southeast of Las Vegas, Nevada.

The dam's generators provide power for public and private utilities in Nevada, Arizona, and California.

As to the beer:

Boulder Dam Brewing Company is located in Boulder City, Nevada.

Named after the canyon in which the dam is built, this rich, dark beer is made with four varieties of malt. Minnesota two-row brewers, English chocolate, black malt and roasted barley give a pleasant coffee-like character to the finish. This ruby-black brew is perfectly balanced with East Kent Goldings and Liberty hops.
So, if you ever go to Las Vegas, and want to get away for a bit (your woman wants you to leave the casino and go to Hoover Dam) go to the nearby city of Boulder City, and look for Boulder Dam Brewing. If you are there today, get a Black Canyon Stout.
