The beer for today is Flying Dog Collaborator Doppelbock Open Source Beer.
On October 5, 1991, the first version of the Linux kernel, version 0.02 was released. The Linux kernel is released under the GNU General Public License version 2 (GPLv2) and is developed by contributors worldwide. Linux is one of the best examples of Open Source software. The kernel was initially created by Finnish software engineer Linus Torvalds.
About the beer:
On October 12, 2007, the Flying Dog Brewery released Collaborator Doppelbock on the public.
You are holding what we believe is the first Open Source Beer to hit the market in the United States. We started with a basic Doppelbock recipe and solicited suggestions from homebrewers on our blog. We took your comments and crafted this Doppelbock, aptly named Collaborator. The blog, recipe, and label are online at opensourcebeerproject.com, if you'd like to brew some yourself!
Here's the recipe if you are interested in brewing it yourself.

I had this beer last year on New Years Eve at our beer blowout bash.
We also had three other of Wild Dog line, Weizen Bock, Colorado Saison, and the aged Gonzo. We weren't able to acquire the Double Pale Ale (if you are reading this Flying Dog brewers... hint hint...)
I'm not sure if you'll be able to acquire this beer anymore, but you can just brew your own.
Hello-
ReplyDeleteNeal from Flying Dog here. Good news and bad news.
The bad: The Wild Dog Double Pale Ale is no longer available. It was brewed in 2005 and I haven't seen a bottle in a long time.
The good: We brew this beer on a much larger scale now - it's called Double Dog Double Pale Ale and is available in kegs, in 4-packs and in our Canie Major Series Mixed Packs.
The other good: We are coming out with another Wild Dog Series beer in a couple weeks. It is a Smoked Double Lager (Schwarzbier) called Dog Schwarz. It will have limited availability, so make sure to buy it while you can!
Holy crap, they did read it...
ReplyDeleteAnd that is good news. mmmm beer. Now, to see how we can fit a schwarzbier into the days of the beer.
Thanks for coming by Neal.
